Between opening his new restaurant Siena Tavern in Chicago, cooking on every major morning tv show in America, taping television shows, and now promoting his new book, we are not sure when this talented man has a chance to sleep. This week, the much anticipated ” Fabio’s Italian Kitchen” hits news stands and we just know the world is in for a treat. Over the past year we have come to know and love this former Top Chef Fan Favorite very well.

His new cookbook is filled with wonderful moments  where  Viviani  shares the best of Italian home cooking while telling the story of his hardscrabble childhood, his success as a chef in to he United States, and the women in his family who inspired him. This book is the perfect Mother’s Day present for that special lady in your life.  We wanted to get some BOS  insider information into his new cookbook before this talented chef became too hard to track down.

Q: Fabio your new book Fabio’s Italian Kitchen comes out tomorrow  and your book tour begins,  when do you sleep?

A: I am not sleeping much lately, but I can sleep when I am dead.

Q: Why a write a cookbook, don’t you host a weekly cooking show called Chow Ciao on Yahoo?

A:  Yes, but I really wanted to put out this book to share these great recipes with my fans. This book is  full of wonderful recipes from my mom, great-grandmother,  and grandmother along with very funny stories about my childhood. Well my family thinks they are funny.  See, I wasn’t a good kid growing up.

Q: Why would you write a book about such embarrassing things? Aren’t you worried you are going to ruin your tough guy image?

A: ( Laughing) Yes and No.  Sharing these stories was not part of the plan. I wanted to use my mom and grandmothers recipes, but my mom wanted to share funny stories about me. I  needed to get these great recipes, so I did what any great chef would do. I begged. In the end,  I got to choose the stories,  but it was still pretty painful negotiating with my mother.

Q: Wow! I am dying to read the cookbook already. Can you tell me one of the funny  stories?

A: There’s the time I set my grandmother on fire. She was okay, but still it was pretty stressful. The couch didn’t survive.  I was trying to make a line of fire with black chalk, and let’s just say everything caught on fire. Grandma was in a wheel chair and tried to help, but then her chair caught on fire. This is not the funniest story in the book. Everyone is going to have to get a copy of Fabio Italian’s Kitchen and see for themselves.

Q: Fabio you always seem to be setting something on fire. The last time we spoke you talked about setting the trunk of a car on fire at a catering event.  It seems like cooking was a part of your destiny.

A: ( Laughing again) I actually had help setting the trunk of the car on fire, but it seems I was destined to be a great chef from an early age. What can I say. I love making big fires.

If you are dying to read the book just like us then you should run to one of Fabio’s book signings and cooking demos starting Wednesday, April 24th in New York. Chef Fabio Viviani’s Book Tour dates start April 23rd- May 25th. Check out this cool video preview HERE of Fabio’s new book
